Highs and Lows

I realize the day isn't half over, but I thought I would share a high and a low of my day so far.

Low: Though I am not a wildly fit person, my calf muscles are normally very tone. Today I noticed that even when I flex my calf muscles they are still soft and mushy. Atrophy: Achieved.

High: I had my daily meeting with one of the specialists who is rounding the unit today. She is one of the more conservative (though not pessimistic) doctors I've had. She said that based on how I've been doing so far, she thinks I could be one of those who goes on to 34 weeks. I know I've had other doctors share that speculation, but it was a more impressive comment coming from this doctor. Of course, it doesn't mean that I will go on to 34, or even 32, weeks, but it was an encouraging thing to hear.

You can still move your legs about right? Try drawing the ABC's with your toes...it's a great excersize for strengthening the shins and calf muscles. You should trying keep good circulation going on down there anyhow...unless they've given you one of those lovely leg compression machines (velcro ballons that inflate intermittently to keep your legs circulated as you're on long term bed rest).

I hate to describe myself as a lurker (sounds kinda weird) but I do read your blog regularly but don't make comments. However, this morning when I woke up I thought about you and your hospital stay and I remembered how nice it was when someone unexpected makes a nice comment or a word of encouragement. So - first - you, the baby, and the rest of the crew are being thought of and prayers are being lifted up. Also - thanks for being such a great mom! I think it's pretty awesome how you are nesting for your little one who is having the final touches. Blessings to you and the whole crew.
