Welcome, Baby!

I'd like to introduce you to our newest little one. Meet Henry Steven Edstrom. He was born last evening at 5pm and weighs 3 lbs 9 oz.

He was breech, so of course he needed to come via cesarean section. Everything went well and he cried when he was born. He was just beautiful. Even though he was breathing at his birth, they still opted to put him on a cpap machine so that he wouldn't get too tired out trying to breathe. He didn't need to be put on a ventilator or anything like that--hooray! He is doing very well, especially for a 30 week baby.

I know the picture looks a little scary with the breathing mask and the IV board on his hand and all of the other tubes and tape. Believe me, though, that he is doing an amazing job. He's moving quite a bit and is even opening his eyes for us when we're in the room talking to him. I only wish we could spend more time with him, but it's hard for me to be up and out of bed for very long.

I just wanted to stop in and share our good news. I want to thank you all for your prayers, kind wishes, and support during this difficult time. You have no idea how your comments and emails have cheered and encouraged me.

Now we wait and hope for a speedy and trouble-free stay in the NICU!

Congratulations!! He sure is tiny... but wow... it sounds like he is doing great.

Henry is a great name... it is one we considered, had our second been a boy. Oh, and yay for Anna that she is still the only girl... I think it will make being the middle child a tad easier. ;)

Good luck to you and little Henry. You are both in our prayers for healthy and speedy hospital stays.

Oh, congratulations! He's beautiful, and I'm so glad he's doing so well. We'll be hoping and praying that his stay in the hospital is short.

(How long is he expected to be there?)

I hope you are doing well, too, Sarah!

He's absolutely precious. And, if he's being absolutely ornery one day, you can pronounce his name in the French way.:) Here's hoping you're feeling up to par quickly and he's out of there and home in your arms soon. By the way, thank you for the quick update.

Oh my goodness, I step away from the computer for a few days and look what happens! I'm so glad that went as well as it did. Breech...okay, that makes sense, babies are often breech till like 34 weeks or something like that...hmm...okay, guess I see where they're concerns would be now. Duh....

Oh I heard the convention is getting down played a great deal, and I was disappointed, but now I'm happy because it's all part of the greater plan and if a shorter, less hyped convention lets you get to little Henry easier, that's got to be the divine design.

Love to you, the kids, and the whole family!

I realize your bed rest and preemie journey happened a few years ago, but I wanted to thank you for your documentation of your story. I am in a similar situation right now. My water broke at 23w 3d, and I've been on hospital bedrest for 3.5 weeks. I am 27w as of yesterday! I have 3 kids at home ages 7 and under, who are doing well under the circumstances, as is my fantastic husband. While I sit here pondering the unknown and the uncontrolable aspects of my pregnancy, it has been wonderful to pour over your posts. Thank you for the gift of hope!
